• Treat everything about the case study like a professional project - while the design work you actually did is the main focus, the case study layout should be readable, well presented and visually interesting. Ideally, everything you publish should be putting your best foot forward as a professional designer.
  • Look to other designer’s portfolios for inspiration on both case study design and topic ideas.
  • Your work deserves to be seen in the best light! Use professional looking product mockups to showcase your work. There’s loads of free resources on Figma like this app screen mockup and online at free sites like Unblast and Mr. Mockup (a lot of mockup files are .psd files).
  • Include all your thinking and your process in your work - employers want to see the ‘why’ and ‘how’ you did something as much as the ‘what’ you achieved in the end.
  • In your projects, show KPI’s/metrics, outcomes and any data you have, wherever possible. Even without numbers, you can connect to business outcomes. Those doing the hiring love to see this information because it’s often more understandable and tangible, while also helping show your real business impact and value. I highly recommend looking into the growth frameworks CASTLE and AAARR to start.
